Got this off the Freakonomics blog, this video is really good. There’s some good halal investment tips in there too
The part about the crack dealing is from chapter 3 of the book. This book is a great read, one that I really enjoyed, you can get the book here:
Without further ado.. here is the video on Basic Economics by Tommy Bottoms: (FYI video is kind of R rated)

I think this was the most repulsive episode so far. I knew it was only a matter of time before they got really close to making fun of something in the deen - I just didn’t think they would have the audacity to do it with salaah. Don’t even get me started on the convert dude angle and ending. It doesn’t even seem like Muslims are writing this show, I have seen more accurate portrayals of Islam in non-Muslim media.
I’m really curious now to see how those Muslims who are supporting this show feel now that even the prayer in Islam has been made fun of and mocked. If you think that last statement was a bit extreme, then the least that can be said is they portrayed salaah in a negative light. I don’t know how any Muslim with an ounce of emaan in their heart can still support a show after seeing that.
This is pretty good. Reminded me for some reason about the whole debate over AlMaghrib charging tuition. Another thing I remembered was something Muhammad AlShareef mentioned in Fiqh ad-Dawah about seeing some Saudi soccer jerseys selling for $80/each and how they sold out since it was a quality product, so people paid for it. Anyway…enjoy..
This one was really bad. Let’s see:
*Update: Don’t forget to check out this excellent commentary on the show! (thanks amad for reminding me)

Part 2:
Found this on Qabeelat Haadi’s website. It’s in 6 parts and I have pasted them all here. By the way the intro to part 1 is by Muhammad Faqih. The lecture is called How to Cleanse your Heart.

Part 2:
I thought that this was the best episode so far (though that’s not saying much. Nothing new to report in this episode other than some continued sexual humor (great for a family Muslim comedy), flirting, and the usual lameness. One particularly funny line was the desi guy saying the imam was not a real man because he didn’t have a beard. Other than that though, I’m really getting annoyed by the ultra-progressive and liberal undertones in this show, and it again begs the question as to what the purpose of the show really is and how they’re serving it. One annoying thing about the Imam in particular is how its portrayed that he’s the leader of the Muslim community, but he has to keep going to the priest for guidance on everything.
The Imam character makes no sense: he received religious education, yet has not displayed one iota of it in the show. He was a lawyer before, but even those skills are completely lacking. He plays an imam, yet looks or acts nothing like one. The whole character just doesn’t make any sense. About the only thing he does well is flirt with that chick and make painfully lame jokes about missionaries and their position on the spread of Islam in Africa. Anyway here are the videos: (click the link saying ‘more’ if you cannot see them)
Please click the picture to see how even the data mining algorithms of YouTube could not be deceived by refusenik herself. I like Irshad Manji though, I have never seen one person single handedly unite all streams of Islam, practicing and non-practicing, with as much vigilence and energy as she has … though maybe not quite united upon what she had hoped anyway.
Anyway that video is sick. You can watch it if you like here.

This one was just flat out lame. There is not much else to say other than that. They are doing a great job of making Muslims look like a bunch of horn dogs and idiots. As for all the people who think this is great, and will bridge the gap, blah blah blah. Well, it may bridge the gap for people who resemble these characters in real life, and if that is the case … you better check yourself before you wreck yourself. You got big problems to worry about. “Hi, look at me I’m a Muslim imam and I’m soooo normal, I can’t keep myself from checking out girls when they bend over.” Anyone that thinks this is good for dawah needs to come back to planet earth.
This really was just painful to watch, especially with all the wonderful sexual “humor” thrown in (that wasn’t even funny I might add).
Only a matter of time before something in the deen gets mocked …
Anyway, here are the videos.. enjoy (or gag).
Props to Ibn al-Hyderabadee for the video.
fyi: i have fixed the links on my previous post and the videos should work now.
