Interview with Ibn Uthaymeen’s Wife

this is a great read. it gives a glimpse into the side of the ulemma that we often never hear about. i find it especially so since he is a contemporary scholar, so it gives us some additional benefit and advice about how we should live our lives.

Texas Dawah Conference 2006 (recap)

i am back from TDC alhamdulillah. since it seems a lot of ppl are interested in what went down etc i will inshallah post some of my notes from the lectures i was able to attend, so keep an eye out. the posts will all contain “TDC06″ in the title.

the highlights of the conference were definitely yasir qadhi’s lectures, but i dont think i was really disappointed in any of the lectures i was able to attend, esp ibrahim dremali, kamal mekki, and waleed basyouni’s. the final session on monday night was also extremely motivational and ended the conf on a very nice note.

i will try to post links to other blogs and stuff in the comments for general recaps, etc.

inshallah more details to follow..

I’m Locked Up (They won’t let me out)

This is not your usual “so and so got put in jail” post. So please read it. I don’t often “pour it out” on my blog but this is one of those posts. It’s something thats been on my mind for quite some time and I have to say something. If you start reading this and have no idea what I am talking about then say alhamdulillah that Allah(swt) has spared your heart and emaan from this fitnah and please don’t read it (I am referring here to the points towards the end of my post, not the beginning).

New Islamic Search Engine

Google powered! Check it out!
This is a google search engine focused specifically on authentic Islamic sites.  To get an idea of what I mean by that you can check the links in my blogroll on the right side. Please post comments here about how you like it. I hope that it will become a resource for people to be able to quickly google islamic information without having to sift through all the loads of garbage that also comes up. I have also started adding sites to the exclusion list (like Hisham Kabbani’s website) to further enhance the results.

Please pass the word, inshallah if people like it then I will try to buy a domain pointing to it so that it’s easier to use. Please post your comments on this new project idea.

Week 16: Gotta Luv’em

Hadith:
Narrated Al-Bara: I heard the Prophet - Sal Allahu alayhi wa
sallam - saying, “None loves the Ansar but a believer, and none
hates them but a hypocrite. So Allah will love him who loves
them, and He will hate him who hates them.” - Saheeh AlBukhari

[Lessons from this Hadith] Make a special effort today to read
stories of the Ansar. Read about their sacrifice for the Deen.
And in this journey, you will win the love of Allah for
yourself!

The Death of Bin Baz

I was looking at this khutbah by Muhammad alShareef mentioning the death of Bin Baz, and it really got me to reflecting on his life and passing, rahimahullah. I don’t think the ummah in our times has really seen such a figure. Mashallah he excelled in all areas of Islamic knowledge not only academically, but in practicality as well. It’s funny, people often get themselves involved in a circular argument of “who are the scholars?”, “the scholars are those people that other scholars give tazkiyyah to”, “how can you know whether those scholars were reliable to begin with” and “how can we judge them on quran and sunnah when we need them to learn quran and sunnah in the first place?”

I heard the answer to this question the other day in a lecture I was listening to. It’s an issue that confused me for some time, and when I heard this explanation, I couldn’t believe how stupid I felt for not knowing it (I call it ‘a day in life of a progressive Muslim’). Anyway, the point was that Read the rest of this entry »

Get the June Atlantic Monthly

This month's Atlantic Monthly has a good article on the Education of Ali Timimi. I haven't been able to find this article in its full version online (maybe if someone has Lexis-Nexis access they can pull it). But it is a good read nonetheless and worth picking up a copy.
